
Founded in 1979, the German-American Society of Tulsa hosts a range of events and activities, dedicated to preserving the German culture and sharing it with fellow Tulsa residents. Formerly a church, it is housed in a stunning Gothic structure boasting vaulted ceilings, exposed beams and colorful stained glass windows. If you want to check out the venue for yourself, it’s situated in the heart of Midtown Tulsa. From Downtown, it’s a five-minute drive to the venue. After 5pm, parking in downtown is free. In addition, if you want to use public transport, you can take the 112, 140 and 700 buses to get to the venue and back.

The venue was first built in 1929 for the 2nd Church of Christian Scientists, which hadn’t been in the city for long. After moving to a different location, the society was founded in 1979, after a group of German natives wanted to host Oktoberfest in Tulsa.

Every year during the Maifest celebrations, a May Queen is chosen (Maikönigin in German). She is a representative of the society during most of GASTulsa’s events, including the Easter and Christmas party.

GASTulsa hosts a number of events and celebrations, but beyond organizing weddings and seasonal and traditional festivals, it also offers Conversational German language classes, Kinderdeutsch classes, and an Online German Chat group to its members and the public throughout the year. All classes are taught by native German speakers and certified German language instructors. The groups tend to be small to enable students of all levels and ages to participate in class. Classes take place at the GAST Event Center.
